Some of you might be wondering why I've been missing comic updates for SailorSun.org (Ussually on Tuesday evening/Wednesday morn).
Well, long story short. I've made a few major changes in my life. Amoung them was breaking up with my (now Ex) girlfriend and trying to get some things in order in my life.
One of the things that was really hard to do was to give up my puppy. Last June, my Ex-G/F gave me a puppy for my birthday. Dispite my better judgement. I agreed to it. We already had 3 cats and one turtle. I made the disission when I first moved into the small 800 square foot house) that we wouldn't be getting another pet, till one of more had died off. But after discussing my birthday gift with the G/F I figured, what's one more pet. Not my best choice in retrospect. It was the easier choice to make at the time. My G/F wanted another pet, and I like and always wanted a dog. (I still love my cats, but I've always been a dog person).
A couple weeks after my birthday, we got the new puppy. She was a mix between Collie (50%), Lab, Dalmation, and Boxer. Within a week, we named her Rogue and she became part of the household.
Rogue had some difficult times. The biggest of which was her leg was broken (not going to say how (it wasn't my fault)), but because of location of the break the best thing we could do was have the leg removed. This put me in a pretty large debt and now Rogue has three legs. She seemed to recover and bounce back quite quickly. Running up and down the animal hospital halls the day after the surgery.
After the break up with the G/F, I relised I could not look after a dog alone. I worked to far from home to be able to run back to let the dog out. Plus with the risk that I could be called to work and be away from anytime for a weekend to month(s) there was a huge care issue. The cats wouldn't be an issue, make sure they had food and a clean litter box before I left and the cats could survive till someone could pick them up for me or till I got home. Rogue needed daily attention. Which I couldn't be sure I would always be around to provide.
So in looking out for Rogue's best interest I found her a nice home. A friend who owns a farm with lots of animals and room to run and play with agreed to take Rogue. We agreed that I would keep Rogue till she was finished puppy classes. Which was every Tuesday evening. (Hence the delayed comic on Tuedays)
This evening was the last class. Rogue graduated and as agreed, I dropped Rogue off at her new home afterwards. She's already stayed a couple weekends before (to make sure there wouldn't be a problem). I know she'll be 100% happier at her new home then she was living with me.
I know it's the best thing for her and for me. It's still a hard to let her go. Happly I will be able to visit and keep tabs on her. But as of this evening she's no longer my puppy, but someone elses.
I still have a sizeable debt between all the expenses of getting a puppy (vet, shots, tags, food, etc...) and the surgery to fix her after her leg was broken. Even though my two cats are still here, there's a gap in the house. Rogue was only with me for a short time, but she left an impression that may never go away.
Doing the right thing is sometimes hard. Over the past few months, I've learnt it's often better to make the harder disission, and not the easier one.
